Keynote and invited speaker

Education, scientific qualification, practical experience, society membership

Roman Šturm, PhD since 1997, Professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ljubljana, Head of Department of Chair of materials, science and technology, and head of Laboratory for heat treatment and materials testing LATOP; Former Dean of Faculty of Mechanical Engineering University of Ljubljana Slovenia, between 2011 and 2017 he was also a vice-dean of the faculty. He gives lectures related to the basis of material science, heat treatment, and non-destructive testing. He was responsible for research and the development of highway noise barriers and construction details for prefabricated buildings. His research interests cover several fields, i.e.: Conventional and small-punch creep testing, heat treatment of metals, surface hardening (quenching, laser melting, laser cladding, laser shot peening, cavitation peening), manufacturing and testing of composites. Modified material properties are evaluated with measurements of hardness, residual stresses, microstructure, corrosion resistance, resistance to crack initiation and propagation, modeling of temperature cycles, calculation of material changes due to diffusion. Non-destructive testing methods, like XRD, AE, US, are used for monitoring the production process and for product evaluation. He was organizer and chair of the 35th European and 10th International Conference on AE Testing in 2022 in Ljubljana, and editor of conference proceedings; author/co-author more of 70 articles in ISI Journals. He also presented his research work at more than 50 international conferences. He is a reviewer of many scientific papers.
